Whatever I could think of to say, there’s always someone out there who can say it better. For example:
From Jay Kuo’s Newsletter The Status Kuo, April 3, 2025—
“Economist Justin Wolfers pulled no punches in his assessment: ‘Monstrously destructive, incoherent, ill-informed tariffs based on fabrications, imagined wrongs, discredited theories and ignorance of decades of evidence. And the real tragedy is that they will hurt working Americans more than anyone else.’”
Oh, and, dumbfuck(ery) is being generous. This level of economic incoherence only speaks sensibly to the mother of all character flaws. Only in the most twisted depths of Trump’s emotional (cognitive if I’m generous) abyss. Stupidity? Malice? What would I expect to see with a hellish mixture of both? Maybe precisely this.
Look upon the faces of the true believers. Listen to the defenses of the miserably tiny-souled pilot fish of the administration. Watch the Republican congressman from Texas quote Joseph Goebbels on what he agrees are the legitimate prerogatives of the state. Will no one rid us of these turbulent Republican assholes? Nope. We must do it ourselves—we who have long since stared into the abyss and made it our friend and ally. It’s our time.
(I’m listening to Isaac Stern’s rendition of Prokoviev’s violin concerto no. 1 at the moment. I know what Stalin did to that gentle genius, but I console myself that his music will outlive our current monster as well as his, which is at least one thing I know that Donald Trump will never find out—imagine that poor, impoverished imposter thinking he’s rich. Phenomena like Trump and his vile agenda are why our species invented tragedy.)
PS: In case you think the Keith Self Goebbels-quoting scenario above is a figment of my imagination, here’s the YouTube link:
